If you weren’t there, you missed it. But luckily hundreds of geeks were there to document today’s SXSW meltdown.
Nathan Wright at Lava Row has a good recap of what happened during today’s SXSWi Keynote by Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg:
Today during the Mark Zuckerberg keynote at SXSW, a compelling thing happened. Zuckerberg was interviewed by […]

SXSW Interactive Day 2: Audience Revolt at the Metrics Panel
March 8th, 2008 · 18 Comments
Fantastic panels today. I’ll have notes on teen marketing, alternate reality games and Henry Jenkins soon. I had to get a quick post up about the social media metrics panel.
First, some quick background: I participated in a Traditional/New Media panel in Minneapolis a couple weeks ago, live-blogging for Metroblogging Minneapolis. In addition, while the speakers […]

SXSW Interactive Day: 1
March 8th, 2008 · 3 Comments
What an insane day at SXSW Interactive Day 1. I honestly could go home happy after just this one day.
I kicked off the morning hosting breakfast with Rick Calvert, CEO and Co-Founder of BlogWorld, Jim Turner, Chief Managing Partner of One By One Media and Nathan Wright, Founder of Lava Row. There was some fantastic […]

Leerone rides Imaginary Biographies to SXSW
February 16th, 2008 · No Comments
Leerone, whom we told you about just after the new year, got some love from Billboard Magazine’s “Now Here This,” section last month and now all eyes are on how fast people snatch up Imaginary Biographies following her tbd SXSW gigs.
LEERONE : “To Fill the Void” (mp3)
She has a lovely Karen Carpenter poetic vibe with […]

Megafaun : Bury the Square : SXSW : mp3
February 16th, 2008 · No Comments
It’s no secret I really dig the Raleigh/Durham music scene. The latest band to hit my radar are Megafaun, who are actually Durham transplants via Eau Claire. In fact, the three guys who make up the trio used to be in DeYarmond Edison with Justin Vernon (Bon Iver). Yes!
Incestuousness aside, the trio drop their […]

SXSW Footage : Annuals : Peter Bjorn And John : Aqualung : The Polyphonic Spree
April 11th, 2007 · No Comments
Grouper just posted an impressive assortment of live video from SXSW ’07. It doesn’t beat actually being there - but soundboard audio and 4+ camera angles = pretty great footage if you didn’t make the trek to Austin this year.
Here are some of the highlights:
Annuals @ The Lone Star Lounge - Austin, TX […]

Illinois @ SXSW, What the Hell Do I Know? Interview
March 22nd, 2007 · No Comments
We got the chance to meet and hang out with Bucks County, Pennsylvania group Illinois during our time at SXSW. Group leader Chris Archibald (call him “Arch”) and company are the kind of guys you pal-ed around with in college. Easy going guys with plenty of inside jokes, who will greet you with a hug […]

Interview with the Annuals
March 19th, 2007 · No Comments
Standing in the back alley of Austin’s Beauty Bar on Wednesday, the Comas had already kicked off a rockin’ at the Ace Fu Records SXSW showcase, and by the roar of the crowd and a cold beer paired with the warm Texas night air, we could tell it was going to be one hell of […]

Great Northern @ SXSW
March 17th, 2007 · 3 Comments
We got an advance copy of Great Northern’s forthcoming album, Trading Twilight for Daylight (Eenie Meenie Records), just prior to SXSW.
Tracks like “lOw IS a hEIghT” and “hOMe” quickly stood out as haunting melodic pop tracks the mass public could get their heads around while possessing enough intrinsic musical value for the rest of us.
They were […]

Grand Ole Party @ SXSW

Here are a few photos of San Diego’s Grand Ole Party playing the Filter Magazine’s High Noon at Cedar showcase.
At times lead singer AND drummer Kristin Gundred channels Grace Slick and Karen O, although you’d never see either of those two nail a drum fill while belting out an improvised jazz lyric. We picked up […]

Langhorne Slim @ SXSW
March 17th, 2007 · 1 Comment
Langhorne Slim plays those old-timey blues riffs our Grandpa always hummed when cleaning fish. But this is no old man with a southern porch name - this is a 20-something bred in New York City with a punk attitude to match his furious acoustic guitar picking and jaunty hat. Only the best guitar players can […]

Architecture in Helsinki @ SXSW
March 17th, 2007 · No Comments
Architecture in Helsinki, eveyone’s favorite Australian indie pop octet, played a crowded SXSW show at Mohawk Bar on Wednesday.
With hipsters climbing the fences and peering over the roof, it was evident this was one show that was making the fire marshal very nervous.
*note strategic silly string placement from Apes and Androids prior set.

Apes and Androids @ SXSW
March 17th, 2007 · 1 Comment
You haven’t witnessed anything until you’ve seen New York’s Apes and Androids’ “futurist orchestra” perform their unique brand of genre/gender mashup.
With a bombastic set topped by silly string and a dancing monster, they did not disappoint.

Stars of Track and Field @ SXSW
March 17th, 2007 · No Comments
Stars of Track and Field, the indie rock group from Portland, may have had troubles with their samples, keyboards and mics, but once they got their set up and running, they were off to the races.
The trio’s marriage of electronic beats and samples, tight bass riffs and emotional harmonics had the crowd at Mohawk’s indoor […]

Nicole Atkins @ SXSW
March 17th, 2007 · No Comments
Nicole Atkins, the 27 year-old Jersey singer/songwriter, just couldn’t catch a break at SXSW this year. If you’ve ever tried to fly from Newark anywhere, you know what we mean.
The Sea (of Nicole Atkins & the Sea), got held up in the Cincinnati airport. That was extremely unfortunately, as the crowd at the Mohawk Bar […]

Uncut @ SXSW
March 17th, 2007 · No Comments
Uncut, featuring Canadian post-punk, played a rockin’ show at Emo’s tent last Wednesday. The band features three writers, so just about every song their played off their new LP, Modern Currencies (Paperbag Records), is awfully fresh.
Damn, we love Canadians almost as much as Australians.

Meriweather, modern rock all the way from Baton Rouge, LA, landed a spot on the Taste of Chose tour after winning a MySpace contest. Apparently bands really do win those.
Check out their song, “Girl in Mexico,” for an idea of what’s to come from this group.

The Forms @ SXSW
March 16th, 2007 · 1 Comment
Oh, the Forms. They had the blogosphere buzzing with their debut effort, Icarus, just two years ago.
“Finally, indie rock with balls,” the blogs proclaimed. But those pesky blogs are fickle, you know. You don’t exactly want to bank on a hottie mail order bride just because the blogs recommend her.
We’re not saying we don’t love […]
