Theory of a Deadman occupies the space somewhere between Seether and 3 Doors Down. They’re a straight-ahead rock band, as they showed Sunday night at the Rock in Maplewood.

Playing to a capacity crowd the BC foursome whipped through a quick set of short, pop-laden rock songs without too much aggro or weepiness.

Sunday was the first night of their tour in support of their newly released album, Scars and Souvenirs. Lead singer Tyler Connolly works through his copious women problems through catchy radio-ready tunes you might have confused for songs by Puddle of Mudd, Nickelback or Seether.

Deadman are supported by Nashville’s SafetySuit for this leg. The quartet focus on melodic rock with a slight hint of emo — without indulging in needy histrionics.

They have written a batch of tasty pop nuggets and glazed them in echoey-guitar goodness. Their new album will feature a song called Annie that seems destined to reside on a million girls’ iPods.

Local openers Crash Anthem have proven to be a seriously underrated powerhouse of keyboard-flavored melodic metal. Previously called Skywynd these cats brought the energy and won over the already-packed crowd. –Tim O’Regan
