My SXSW Panel: The State of Music Blogs in 2010

I’m thrilled to share my SXSW Interactive Panel, The State of Music Blogs in 2010, has been selected for the 2010 conference in March. ROCK!

Description:
Just how important are music blogs to the industry today, is that prominence growing or fading, and how will new technologies and strategies impact the marketing mix in the coming year? [...]

Greg on MPR talkin’ ’bout U.S. Air Guitar Championships

I’m on Minnesota Public Radio’s “Art Hounds” this week talking about the U.S. Air Guitar Championships.

Greg Swan manages Perfect Porridge, a music news and review blog in Minneapolis. Greg is going to watch musicians with imaginary axes battle for bragging rights at the U.S. Air Guitar Championships at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis, Friday [...]

Jason DeRusha, brought to you by Perfect Porridge

I’ve been enjoying WCCO reporter Jason DeRusha’s innovative “desk news” each weekday at 4 p.m.

Viewers can watch a live stream of Jason’s desk on-demand during the day, but at 4 p.m. he specifically tunes into the live chat, talks about the changes being made to his Good Question for the evening, and tries to [...]

The new American Dream booming across bandwidth

Much local music has become an entirely different beast thanks to the Internet. Blogs, MySpace accounts and Pitchfork-like online reviewers inform and power a new generation of music lovers. And, for what it’s worth, it seems to be the newest incarnation of the American Dream for the local music [...]

@perfectporridge in the Star Tribune today

Today was a Sunday, and I got 36 pitch e-mails. Last Friday I got 134 pitch e-mails. My average is 70-80/day.

That’s why if you’re not following me on Twitter (listen up bands, labels and PR people), then you will never have my full attention.

I first discovered Twitter’s true impact during SXSW 2007, when [...]

My sister on CNN fist bumping alongside Obama

What started as a joke turned into mainstream media news this morning.

Last fall I made a video of my sister and her new husband showcasing their first married fist pound and put it on YouTube:

Well, this morning CNN picked it up as part of their coverage of Obama’s celebratory fist bump with the Mrs.

Perfect Porridge joins AllTop

Today Perfect Porridge is officially listed on AllTop.com, yes! It’s a fantastic site similar to PopUrls.com with even more categories. Guy Kawasaki rocks!

Porridge urges WCCO-TV (CBS) to set up a breaking news Twitter feed, it happens

Thanks to Twitter and my inability to be satisfied (there is no off position on the genius switch, people), WCCO-TV (CBS) in Minneapolis now has a breaking news Twitter feed.

WCCO reporter Jason DeRusha, whom I met via Twitter, then met in real life (once) and have continued to develop a relationship with, helped me [...]

Blu-Ray here to stay, but digital downloads/on demand is really the future

I’m quoted in today’s Pioneer Press about the death of HD DVD. Our DVD/VCR combo crapped out months ago, but we postponed buying anything to avoid a trap.

Although we have a large library of DVDs, I’m still not convinced digital downloads and on-demand streaming isn’t the future — especially given the new high-capacity fiber optic [...]

Perfect Porridge named a Favorite Twin Cities’ Website

Check it out. Thanks Mpls St. Paul Magazine (pg. 110)!

Can anybody find an online link to this feature? Seems so idiotic I can’t find it online. It’s virtually local link bait in the making!
