We Are the Willows’ Midwest Song Map

I wrote about the new We Are the Willows debut LP, A Collection Of Sounds And Something Like The Plague back in October, and I’m still digging on it.

Check out this cool map Amble Down sent over:

Recorded in a basement and all over the city of Minneapolis (where Miller currently lives) with nothing more than a laptop and a couple of microphones, A Collection of Sounds And Something Like The Plague is directly constructed from and inspired by the noise of one’s surroundings. Miller captured sounds like the brakes on a train, conversations at a local cafe and stones being thrown into a creek and incorporated them into the songs of A Collection, literally documenting one man’s human experience with sounds from everyday life.

Having musically captured the city, Miller and friends visualized the concept with a hand-drawn map of Minneapolis that weaves together each of the locations where A Collection was recorded, painting a picture of Minneapolis’ (and Miller’s personal) sonic landscape.
