I’m a big fan of Elephant Six Collective, The Olivia Tremor Control and the post-OTC group, Circulatory System.
Reading the buzz about the new Circulatory System disc, I’m flabbergasted their debut full-length came out eight years ago. Eight years? My how time flies.
About a month ago I got my grubby hands on an advance copy of their new Signal Morning album and resumed having my mind blown like 2002.
Featuring all the members of The Olivia Tremor Control PLUS Jeff Mangum and Julian Koster of Neutral Milk Hotel, this album is 15 years ahead of its time in sound, songwriting and ego.
A geniusly disjointed 17-tracks recorded in seven disjointed studio sessions, Signal Morning proves there are still bands looking to push boundaries, explore new ideas and shrug off commercialism. God bless this band..
Favorite tracks include: Woodpecker Greeting Worker Ant, Round Again, Overjoyed and the title track.

But any Elephant Six fan knows you listen to these albums as albums. Hit play and go for it.
After listening to Signal Morning much of the week, I dusted off OTC’s Dusk at Cubist Castle and am happy to report this stuff is just as timeless as ever. I’ll wait another eight years if that’s what it takes.
Circulatory System are in the midst of a good sized September tour with with Pipes You See, Pipes You Don’t and Nesey Gallons, although skipping Minnesota.
