Fujiya & Miyagi, School of Seven Bells @ 7th St. Entry, Minneapolis, MN, Feb. 12, 2009

Fujiya and Miyagi Fujiya and Miyagi, The Entry, Feb. 12, 2009 Fujiya and Miyagi, The Entry, Feb. 12, 2009 Fujiya and Miyagi, The Entry, Feb. 12, 2009 Fujiya and Miyagi, The Entry, Feb. 12, 2009 Fujiya and Miyagi are perfectly content with walking the line between rock band and club music, and last night's sold out 7th Street Entry crowd had no problem drinking the hybrid Kool-Aid. Blistering through tracks off the UK group's debut, Transparent Things, and September's Light Bulbs, F&M jolted, quivered, reeled and shook their beloved crowd. Favorite tracks included "Knickerbocker," "Transparent Things" and "Pussyfooting," all with F&M's signature, motorik beat. Of note is lead vocalist/guitarist David Best's vocal dichotomy that holds the songs together. . He looks like a regular dude -- the nice guy you girls had for a study partner in chemistry class. Yet there he is on stage, front and center, gently singing these repetitive lyrics ("No more pussyfooting around / No more pussyfooting around / With you") while his guitar work, Steve Lewis' synths and beats, and the rest of the band is rocking the crowd into a comforted acid trip. Kyle at MoreCowbell got some good video before his brain started melting here. School of Seven Bells School of Seven Bells, The Entry, Feb. 12, 2009 I swear this Brooklyn trio is inhuman. The Deheza sisters' eery harmonies and intense eye contact with the audience gave me the wrong kind of goosebumps. Next Tuesday, Feb. 17, Ghostly International will release School of Seven Bells' Iamundernodisguise as 7" vinyl and digital download.
