Flin Flon Bombers : This Boat Runs On Happy Faces

flinflombombers_cover.JPG
My first clue that Saint Paul psychedelic pop band Flin Flon Bombers were a “little different” was getting their review album for This Boat Runs On Happy Faces in the mail.

The band members (some of whom are from Saskatchewan, btw), hand glued the album to 45″ vinyl record and fashioned the artwork into a record sleeve. Then I gave the album a spin and found jovial toe-tappers, three-part harmonies and tons of song fragments — 14 of the 22 tracks are under two minutes. And in this case, “different” is great.

Check out two of the longer-running tracks here:

Flin Flon Bombers : “The Ole Empire” (mp3)

UPDATE: See David’s HWTS review (and photos) here.

  • Candyland and Saskatchewan do not belong in the same sentence. Trust me. Haha. It's probably the most uneventful/boring province in Canada. Stretches of flat farmland for miles upon miles.
  • Saskatchewan personally intrigues me. I imagine it's like Candyland, except with strip clubs.
  • Yay, Greg. Looks like you were as happy as I was to stumble on this one. Damn, I wish I could see them play live. Might be a pipe dream at this point.
