Oh Lewis Black, you angry little man. Last week I spun this album on a drive from Des Moines back home to Minneapolis by myself, and increasingly found myself feeling much better about my life.
On Black’s new live album, Anticipation (Comedy Central Records), the typically frantic and frenzied comic doesn’t waste a minute before dropping a few f-bombs, but he does take his time ramping up his signature outrage — covering topics like gold, Vegas, 10 days of Chanukah and losing his virginity to a skipping record. Oh, and although Jewish, Black would like all Americans to vote for Santa Claus this year — or at least have the candidates be required to dress like Kris Kringle. Who can be mad at Santa?
I’ll admit when I took out my iPod on the plane yesterday and changed from album to album at the scroll of a wheel, I smiled — knowing Black’s forehead explodes with exasperated sweat at the very concept.
If you ever feel the urge to pick up a self help book to make your life better, may I suggest buying this album and just knowing you’re so so so much better off than Lewis Black.
