I usually hate compilations, but this one is different. Verve//Remixed 4 features a wide array of production contributors to re-imagine a number of R&B, soul, latin and jazz standards (and rare gems).
I’ve been blasting this CD at the office a few times a day. Favorites are Kenny Dope’s take on James Brown’s “There Was a Time”, Diplo’s take on Marlena Shaw’s “California Soul” (mp3 below) and Psapp Remix of “Bim Bom” by Astrud Gilberto.
Tracks:
- “Cry Me A River” (Truth & Soul Remix) - Dinah Washington
- “Gimmie Some” (Mike Mangini Remix) - Nina Simone
- “There Was A Time” (Kenny Dope Remix) - James Brown
- “California Soul” (Diplo) - Marlena Shaw (mp3)
- “Take Care Of Business” (Pilooski Edit) - Nina Simone
- “Bim Bom” (Psapp Remix) - Astrud Gilberto
- “Tenderly” (Mocky Remix) - Anita O’ Day
- “Tea For Two” (Chris Shaw Remix) - Sarah Vaughan
- “Dilo Como Yo” (Antibalas Remix) - Patato & Totico
- “Evil Ways” (Karriem Riggins Remix) – Willie Bobo
- “Everybody Loves The Sunshine” (9th Wonder Remix) – Roy Ayers
- “I Get A Kick Out Of You” (Cinematic Orchestra) – Ella Fitzgerald
You have until 6 p.m. CDT tomorrow to enter by e-mailing us with your favorite Verve Records recording artist. Be sure to put Verve Contest in the subject.
