Okay, so I was pretty sarcastic about the Radiohead Best Of’s at first. It’s no secret Radiohead left Capitol/EMI and didn’t agree to this Best Of series — let alone 5 different formats designed to make the label as much money as possible.
Plus, as what I consider to be a “true” Radiohead fan — a purist, if you will — I believe each Radiohead track is only a component of an album’s holistic self. The whole is greater than the sum of its part, you know?
HOWEVER, I’ve now had the chance to listen through the 2 CD, 30 track Best Of double album and skimmed the 21 video DVD the other night, and I have to admit I’m coming around a bit. Or perhaps for a minute there, I lost myself.
Leaving the money and politics aside, the casual Radiohead fan will absolutely love this album, and it may even compel them to do the right thing and buy whole albums.
The DVD, of course, is priceless. Especially for those of us who already own 7 Television Commercials and Meeting People is Easy.
So there you go.
