Tapes ‘n Tapes played a home show at legendary First Avenue last night. Here are mini-reviews from a couple show-goers…
I don’t think you can go wrong when the band you came to see is giving Minnesota Wild shout-outs.
As expected, Walk it Off was the focus last night. The sound of the new album definitely carried into their performance. Walk it Off isn’t a huge departure for them stylistically, but it sounded like they’d toured it once already.
Hits from The Loon were scattered throughout, and the crowd seemed to favor every track they played of it. I don’t think there was a disappointed person in the house. They were playing to a home crowd and you could tell they had fun doing it. –Erik Jensen
They literally asked if the Wild played last night in the midst of the concert and the whole crowd (minus me) goes, “No, tomorrow night.” Hilarious.
I don’t have much to add, since I honestly didn’t know more than one or two songs.
However, I do have to say that Birthday Suits was literally the worst band I’ve ever heard in my life. Were you being a smart ass when you said they were good?! I hope to God you were, or we need to have a serious discussion, Greg.
They were like weird high schoolers with little to no vocal talent who were on some sort of psychotic drug. At one point I thought the drummer might rip his brain stem off his spinal cord with his v. intense head banging. Gross.” - Alison B.
