Tom Petty Minneapolis Tour Ticket Giveaway

tom_petty_100dpi.jpg

“I want to give the radio back to the kids. That’s one thing I’d like to see. I remember a time when you could turn on the AM radio and just set there all day and listen. Now I keep punching the button and hope something will come on that’s worth listening to. There’s nothing. They don’t play the young bands. Boston is just MOR as far as I’m concerned. There’s no threat there. And disco just ain’t right.” – Tom Petty, Los Angeles Times 1977

Tom Petty may have 18 Grammy nominations and too many top hits to name — “Don’t Do Me Like That,” “Refugee,” “Runnin’ Down a Dream,” “The Waiting,” “Don’t Come Around Here No More,” “I Won’t Back Down,” “Free Fallin,” “Mary Jane’s Last Dance,” “American Girl,” “You Don’t Know How It Feels,” etc. — but it sure felt good to see Petty and the Heartbreakers knock them out reliably at Super Bowl 42 last week.

Petty is coming to Target Center on July 23, 2008, and tickets went on sale yesterday. You can buy tickets here. And yes, there’s a $250 dream package (yowza!).

What You Can Win
We got our hands on two tickets for the show before they even went on sale. You know you want them.

How to Win
E-mail us your favorite Tom Petty song, and when we get back from vacation next week, a winner will be selected and the winner announced here.
Congrats to Jennifer Paulson, whose favorite song is “‘I Won’t Back Down’… moreso as of late. Most of the time it’s American Girl, but not at night, and not in the car…”

If you can’t wait until July, here’s a tour trailer to satiate your adult rock appetites.

  • Mine would have to be Free Fallin' Against all logic, it is my favorite because I've played that song probably 45 different times in 30 different houses. See, back in the day I was a leader for Young Life, and that seemed to make it into rotation about once every 2 weeks. (Of course there was also the unofficial version, proclaiming under-garment preferences.)
