The Republic Tigers, Eugene Francis, Jr, The Teenage Prayers, Widespread Panic

I’m headed to the sunny beaches of Florida this week. Considering we’re getting pounded by a 4 inch blizzard in Minneapolis right now, it couldn’t have come at a better time.

I don’t anticipate posting any new content until the week of Feb. 11, but you just never know.

Meanwhile, I’ve been meaning to get my review of Kansas City’s The Republic Tigers debut EP on Chop Shop Records.

It’s a modern throw back to that narrow bridge between halcyon and hullabaloo. I’ve been listening to it quite often and highly recommend it.

Other items from the e-mail inbox of hell known as the Perfect Porridge kitchen:

Eugene Francis, Jr is streaming a couple songs from his April 2008 album, The Golden Beatle, and has a new YouTube video out for single, “Poor Me.

New York soul-rockers The Teenage Prayers are sharing the single off their upcoming sophomore album, Everyone Thinks You’re The Best. Here’s the lead single…

Widespread Panic will be back home on the road in Spring 2008 with nationwide dates (no Minneapolis, though) supporting their 10th studio album, Free Somehow, which hits on Feb. 12 (Widespread Records).

This new album features tons of “fresh” stuff — meaning it hasn’t been road-tested across the country to the point that mix-tapes feature better mixes than the studio dubs. It’s also their first studio record with new guitarist, Jimmy Herring), which will make for a fun dynamic.

Here’s one of the tracks:
