Daniel Merriweather’s label e-mailed us about him a couple weeks ago. I opened up the MySpace link and there’s a photo of a New Kid on the Block-lookin’ guy along the top. Turns out the boyband haircut and earring are the least questionable thing about this guy. He’s packing the voice of a smooth-croonin’ lady killer.
Merriweather is an Aussie R&B singer — popular in UK dance clubs — who worked with super producer Mark Ronson to rework the ‘87 Smiths hit “Stop Me” and earned some Rolling Stone Magazine love late last year. Now he’s finishing up his debut album and leaked the single “Chainsaw” to wide blogosphere buzz.
And for good reason. It’s a funky, spunky Stevie Wonder meets Herbie Hancock mash-up I can’t stop playing. Check it out yourself:

Look for that self-titled debut in April 2008.
