Review: Dane Cook : Rough Around the Edges: Live from Madison Square Garden

danecooklive.jpgDane Cook
Rough Around the Edges: Live from Madison Square Garden
Label: Comedy Central Rec.

I recently ran a focus group with 10 college students of various ages — all from the Minneapolis/Wisconsin/Dakotas-area. I was name-dropping celebrities to see who resonated and Dane cook was the #1 pick of every single one of them.

Essentially the Adam Sandler equivalent to my generation, Dane Cook didn’t need SNL to launch his raunch, bombastic, explicit comedic career.

Um, did I mention explicit? This guy has more f-bombs than Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Live from Madison Square Garden is a double CD/DVD set featuring Cook’s live stand-up in front of a lively crowd at the sold out arena. They go nuts for nearly 45 seconds before Cook can even drop his first fecal matter metaphor. However, the immature crowd sometimes makes it hard to hear the immature jokes – what with their whooping and hollering.

Overall, super funny, very crass and a phenomenal Oprah bit I actually listened to twice.

  • Porridge,

Alright, so it's quite obvious that Dec. 9th marked the date that your nonsense hit the Alter Bridge forums (which I am not part of, BTW). I wanted to leave another comment there, but for some reason you either have a faulty website, or you have taken the comment section down to save face. Either way, expect that when you write junk. Moving on. Perhaps it's time that you give some attention to the Minneapolis band, The Hold Steady. Boys and Girls in America is an excellent album, but you speak nothing of this local band on your website (I took the liberty of searching this time). Here is some free advice: I like the album, so write a favorable review. You can't go wrong now, I've set the table.....now make the god damn meal. Oh, and don't try and tell me that this band is from Brooklyn. Ok guys, that should be it for now. I can be reached at my email that I left for you if you want any more of my expertise, but I will warn you, I will have to start asking for a paycheck sooner or later. Happy holidays. XOXO
