Rob Zombie
Zombie Live
Label: Geffen Records
Rob Zombie knows how to throw a rock show party. We’ve seen both Ozzy and Zombie multiple times indoors and out — including their Merry Mayhem Tour tour together back in 2001 when Ozzy broke his leg but still toured (that was pre-MTV’s Osbournes… before Ozzy was more a laughingstock than a revered rock icon as he is now).
The great thing about seeing Zombie’s stage show indoors is you can feel the heat from the pyrotechnics and better see the colossal robots and other stage creatures emerge from his massive set.
Last week, Zombie released his first-ever live disc, Zombie Live. There’s a reason it’s Zombie Live and not White Zombie or Rob Zombie - it’s both! “Dragula” and “More Human than Human” fit nicely with oldies like “Thunderkiss ‘65.”
And while the production is clean, the audio recording is not exactly expansive. At times, this is Rob Zombie as he would sound through a tin can phone played back through those crappy desktop iPod speakers.
Our question: Where’s the live video footage and animations? This could be nearly a Tool-quality opportunity given the extension live show and attention paid to Zombie’s big screen interplay during a live show. Big missed opportunity for a double disc DVD and artbook.
It’s Halloween today, so check out your Zombie trivia on Halloween Hangman.
