Lester

Lester, featuring group leader David Krejci, Icy Shores drummer Nick Larsen, bassist Rus Kos and Guitarzan, played their CD Release Show at Minneapolis’ Hexagon Bar Thursday.

It may have taken an intense family shake-up to jar Krejci’s songwriting and performance skills back into action, but rusty these skills are not. The crowd of about 40 were treated to a healthy dose of rockin’ tracks from Hide of Frankenstein, plus an AC/DC cover of “Beatin Around the Bush.” Read our interview with Krejci and review of the album here. Watch some 30 second video clips from the live show here.

Arson Plus

Your basic St. Paul garage band, although they did cover “White Rabbit” and then quickly promise never to play it again. Here are some topline thoughts for what it’s worth: Drummer needs to not smile so much, especially on the drum fills. Bassist needs to play more than one note a measure. Lead guitarist needs to rock out. Singer needs to drop the Fat Albert impersonation in the back of his throat and just belt it. Fix those four things, and you’ve got yourselves a band.

Guerilla Blue

These kids had a professional-looking EP to hand out but had never played a gig together. We’ve seen the cart before the horse before, but still wish them luck. Only heard the first few songs. Mandolin player thinks he’s Jimmy Page. Left when the lyrics devolved into, “Na nana na na nah na na nah.”

  • It's too bad you left before the show was over, because Mongoo Music may have interested you for all the reasons you left. I say may, because I have no idea what gets your professionally limited attention span focused. I tend to agree, though, "Hide of Frankenstein" is in my car's stereo right now, and it's by googling it that I found this review. I thus extend an open invitation to stop at the Terminal Bar on friday February 1st.

  • Wanted to thank you for taking the time to write about our band. Nobody but us has ever done that before so it means a lot. As newbies we really appreciate your feedback.

A couple things appear to be incorrect with this publication though. It would be rad if the link tied to our band would direct people to the band webpage www.myspace.com/guerrillablue. Also, you did not stay for a few songs, you left 30 seconds into the second one, that's not even half of a few. Based upon your review you were obviously there to write about Lester, and that's cool. We hope you picked up a copy of the EP, we would be interested to hear your take on that. Also, we would like to invite you to one of our upcoming shows and hear/read your thoughts after listening to a whole set instead of one song. Check our actual webpage for times and locations. Keep up the good work on the reviews and we looking forward to seeing you at one of our shows.
