Review: Shivaree : Tainted Love: Mating Calls and Fight Songs

shivareetaintedlove.jpgShivaree
Tainted Love: Mating Calls & Fight Songs
Label: Zoe Records

Sharing her own personal vision of love by covering well-known love songs, Shivaree has herself a cover album that’s left us nonplussed.

Quentin Tarantino digs Shivaree. The famed director is known for weaving unusual (yet quality) song selections throughout his films and made strategic use of “Goodnight Moon” in Kill Bill Vol. 2.

But we hardly imagine Chuck Berry, Rich James, R. Kelly, David Allan Coe or hell, even Motley Crue expected the soft soulful crooner to remix their songs without improving on them.

Except maybe Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough,” which loses the disco in favor of modern Bollywood. But you know MJ’s getting royalties for it, so it’s just not enough for us to recommend this disc. Quentin can have her.
