Review: Against Me! New Wave

againstmenewwave.jpgAgainst Me!
New Wave

Release Date: July 10, 2007
Label: Sire/London/Rhino

Former acoustic punk pioneers Against Me! took the opportunity on their fourth full-length studio album (and first major label) to abandon that back alley, basement sound so beloved by fans. In fact, nary an acoustic track is to be found on New Wave, which indeed marks a new wave, polished sound for the group known for political lyrics, writhing mosh pits and on-stage vomiting.

With that said, we’re actually bigger fans of this sound than previous albums. For example, “Stop,” has a cyclical 80s disco chorus matched by compelling punk lyrics and plenty of bright moments that will absolutely engage a hyped-up crowd when performed live.

Against Me! : “White People For Peace” (WIN; MOV)

Against Me! impressed us at their May Minneapolis show, with energy and performance gusto making up for staid chord progressions and lazy lyrics. New Wave material will give the boys even more ammo when assaulting audiences at this year’s Lollapalooza and remaining summer tour.
