Robbers on High Street
Grand Animals
Label: New Line Records
Release Date: July 24, 2007
Using the indie rock recipe as a guide, New York’s Robbers on High Street add a dash of harmony, a slick guitar riff and catchy chorus to make a familiar sound all their own.
Building on the power of tracks “The Fatalist” and “Married Young” from their Fatalist and Friends EP, the group’s sophomore album benefits from the help of Italian composer Daniele Luppi (Gnarls Barkley’s “St. Elsewhere” and John Legend’s “Once Again”), who helped the group continue the move away from their debut, 2005’s Tree City, and it’s wannabe 80’s post-punk that couldn’t stand up to their better peers.
Instead, the group is basking in the glow of its own melodic hooks and seem to have captured a vision that will not only please the casual club goer, but also sell records. This is probably our least favorite track, but it’s all we’ve got.

[…] Busting through tracks from their new summer LP, Grand Animals (review), it was still “The Fatalist” off their old EP (review) that’s the crown jewel in ROHS’ crown. Even live, this band exudes formulaic indie rock that gets heads bobbing and will surely sell records. At the end of the day, it’s up to you if that’s okay. […]
