The Comas
Spells
Label: Vagrant Records
Fat and chunky, smooth and steely, The Comas’ new album, Spells, is a Ben & Jerry’s indie rock mix that goes down cold.
The New York transplants (from North Carolina) have themselves a triple scoop cone of indie rock heaven, with the creamy opening track, “Red Microphones,” and multi-genre sherbet delight of “Come My Sunshine.”
We particularly enjoy tracks when vocalists Andy Herod and Nicole Gehweiler sing together. Partnered with a fuzzed out guitar and driving drums, it’s a sound unmatched in the industry (this week, at least).
We caught The Comas gig opening for The Annuals and Illinois at SXSW this year and were blown away. This is one talented band.

You can catch The Comas playing Minneapolis’ 7th Street Entry tonight with The Veils.
