Dungen
Tio Bitar
Label: Kemado
Release Date: May 15, 2007
Swedish psychedelic rock group Dungen release their third album Tio Bitar (”Ten Pieces/Songs”), next week.
In our review of 2005’s Ta det lugnt (pron. tay da loon – “Take It Easy”) and the band’s Minneapolis show, we used the term “alpenhorns of acid.” That’s not a visual to be throwing around recklessly, son.
Sweet melody transcends into electrifying psychedelica at every lofty switchback up the Swiss Alps. Solid songwriting devolving into jams. Your girlfriend intoxicated on lutefisk and lingenberries.
One of our favorite parts about this band is that we have no idea what they’re singing about. It’s almost like walking around Ikea reading off furniture names set to music.
However, the Swedish language is achingly beautiful and Gustav Ejstes, Dungen founder and lead singer, delivers lyrics matter-of-factly in a manner that transforms the vocals into another element of the listening experience.
