Flatfoot 56
Jungle of the Midwest Sea
Label: Flicker Records
Release Date: May 15, 2007
Celtic punk from Chicago’s south side, Flatfoot 56 return from their Japanese tour with Flogging Molly this month to release their sophomore album, Jungle of the Midwest Sea.
Three brothers and a bagpipe player (who also plays mandolin, mind you), Flatfoot 56 heartily add to the growing celtic punk line-up (including Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys), although you’ll find this group’s lyrics are much more positive and less focused on drinking. It’s no wonder Christian music fans are snapping up the record.
Check out the lyrics from “Loaded Gun” about a different way to end conflict –avoid it:
They say I’ll kick you in the face
We say can I take your place
They say Crush them when they’re week
We say Turn the other cheekHey hey this is my loaded gun
They Say, I hate your colored skin
We say, We’re all the same within
They say, You’re the scum of the earth
We say, we can only see your worth
Ramrod lock and load
The group will be playing Sonshine Festival in Willmar, MN on July 12.

Flatfoot 56 is my favorite band. Their brilliant fusion of celtic/punk/Christian music far exceeded my expectations when I first listened. I have been a fan for several years now and am thrilled that the rest of the world is starting to take note. They are AMAZING!
