Fans of Radiohead, Muse and Coldplay take note. Marillion’s latest album, Somewhere Else, is a worthy addition to your listening line-up this week.

In the three years since the last new Marillion album, the acclaimed double album Marbles. Quite frankly, the prog group’s hardcore fans aren’t happy with the album.

Post 1998’s Radiation, Marillion have continued to embrace influences from some of their greatest UK counterparts, including the Beatles, Radiohead, Muse and Pink Floyd, and almost 10 years later, this is a very different band from the 80s prog masters…and we LOVE it.

With shorter songs, simpler melodies and less prog for your buck, Somewhere Else is a decidedly weaker effort than Marbles, but old fans be damned, tracks like “The Wound” prove Marillion is a player in the new prog pop movement.
