The Greyboy Allstars may have been around for 15 years, but acid-jazz groups from San Diego rarely catch our attention. That is, until we heard their latest old-school funk and sou; album, What Happened to TV.

The group’s first album in 8 years, WH2TV features the collaboration of DJ Greyboy and the original allstar organ and horn section lineup to produce what could be the soundtrack to every TV show from the 70s you can’t remember.

From the James Brown-infused “Still Waiting (featuring Inara George)” to the nectar-dripping vocals of “How Glad I Am (featuring the Living Sisters)” to the cruisin’ funk complete with tull-ified flute solos ion “Deck Shoes,” this album is one happy surprise after another. What Happened to TV is an 11-track retro-funk masterpiece we’ll keep in the rotation often.
