Release Date: April 17, 2007
How much alcohol does one need to drink to force every reviewer of your new album to use the term “booze-soaked” voice/croon/melodies, etc.? And what does Chrisopher Blue’s mom think about these types of descriptors? Then again, she neglected to include a “T” at the critical junction of her son’s name, so maybe she was a little booze-soaked herself.
Regardless, check out Chrisopher Blue’s new LP, Room Tones. He’s one of those somber singer/songwriter storytellin’ fellas from Seattle, but here’s the catch… On a particularly down day when Blue was pondering life and considering maybe moving on from this thing called music, Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees) came to Blue in a 711-induced vision and said, “Chrisopher, keeping singing, man, keep doing what you’re doing.”
The encouraging words reinvigorated Blue and served as the muse for Room Tones, a 13-track work of love, loss, loneliness and (okay, we’re going to say it) liquor. We prefer the second half of the album, which ventures away from the Nick Drake/Jeff Buckley influence into tarcks like “Mandrake,” a haunting sonnet akin in the same sonic soundscape space as Radiohead.
