Josh Rouse and Paz Suay
She’s Spanish I’m American
Release Date: January 30, 2007
Singer/songwriter Josh Rouse has come far for a Nebraska boy. With residence to-date numbering 8 states and now Spain, it’s no wonder his writing style has a worldly feel.
Case in point, Subtitulo, Rouse’s last album, was a veritable small town soundtrack of soft acoustic ballads with sensitive vocals and gentle songwriting style weaving a somber tale following the end of his marriage and a new adventure.
That adventure, as Rouse told us in an interview in March of last year, was for a girl - Paz Suay. And as evidenced on “The Man Who Doesn’t Know How to Smile” from Subtitulo, that girl can sing.
So after returning home to Valencia after the international Subitulo tour, Rouse and Suay tried their hand on a few duets just for kicks. After some production help from Daniel Tashian in Nashville, the result is a 5-track dream pop EP side project soaked in the throes of love.
Rouse’s delicate acoustic guitar mingles with Suay’s golden rich, accent-accentuated butter tongue as the duo float upon a cloud of electronic beats, psychedelic 70s guitar solo and synth swells.
Lyrics touch on those special, intimate moments couples remember from the first “in love” stage - first cab rides, holding hands, long summer days, and oh yeah, friends with DUI’s.

Rouse is currently working Subtitulo’s follow-up, and a career retrospective to be released on Rhino/Warner Brothers next year.

[…] We’ve highly enjoyed his two previous discs and getting the chance to interview him about his relocation to Europe and songwriting muses. […]
