Rockabye Baby : Lullaby Renditions of Radiohead
Rockabye Baby
Lullaby Renditions of Radiohead
Label: Baby Rock Records
When we first
read about a lullaby version of Radiohead songs, we were immediately intrigued. Not only does the
Christopher O'Riley piano tribute and
string quartet tribute grace our beloved Radiohead collection, but so does a mislabeled assembly of rare covers and interpretive bootlegs.
But little could we know we had stumbled upon an entire record label made up of interpretive lullaby fantasticness (note to children, not actually a word).
First in a series that has now grown to 20 (including Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, Beatles, NIN, etc.),
Lullaby Renditions of Radiohead features Michael Armstrong's exuberant mellotrone, glockenspiel and harp bells. The sumptious melodies of York, Greenwood and company are transformed into childlike soundscapes sure to captivate ages 100 days to 100 years.
WHY YOU MUST BUY THIS IF YOU LOVE RADIOHEAD: It's a lush, premature gem that drifts in and out of peripheral submelodies and themes of which you may not have been aware.
WHY YOU MUST BUY THIS IF YOU HAVE KIDS: On Christmas vacation, our five-month old son was screaming in the backseat (trip to Iowa is a long one). By the fourth note of Track 1, "No Surprises," he was silent and fell asleep by Track 5.
We listen to this regularly, sometimes without the baby in the car.
