Rockabye Baby : Lullaby Renditions of Nirvana

Rockabye Babyrockabyenirvana.gif
Lullaby Renditions of Nirvana
Label: Baby Rock Records

L.A.-based indie label Babyrock Records is our new favorite label. Forget Astralwerks, Downtown and Mercury — if you have kids, this is your new go-to source for good music.

Michael Armstrong’s vibrant glockenspiel interpretation 20 albums (including Coldplay, U2, Ramones, etc.) includes his take on Nirvana’s beloved grunge hits. Minus lyrics, Lullaby Renditions of Nirvana is definitely a family favorite these days.

With material already childlike in its innocence and delicate songwriting, Lullaby Renditions of Nirvana gives “Come As You Are,” “All Apologies” and yes, even “Smells Like Teen Spirit” a second coat of naiveté perfect for those impressionable young minds in your household.

But watch out when you know the lyrics and your little one is listening to you sing along. On a recent trip through the suburbs, we caught ourselves singing the words to “In Bloom:”

He’s the one
Who likes all the pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun…

But hey, it’s not like “Rape Me” made the cut.
