Mmmm…manly storytelling songs from Indiana’s Sam Lowry makes us so happy we want to find the bottom of bourbon bottle and get depressed ourselves.

Last month in the newspaper
There was a story about a man at a protest rally
Who set himself on fire
Just to get his point across
And the bystanders, well they tried to save him
But burning alive he fought each one of them off
And I wonder to myself
If could ever believe in anything so much…
Then I think of you.

–”Anything So Much”

If you’re in the market for some high quality storytelling songs written and sung by a man whose past includes heavy whiskey drinking, divorce, suicide and deep thought, you should definitely check out the lyrical adeptness of Songs of my Enemy.

The first single, “The Revival is Over,” features Murder by Death’s Adam Turla on backing vocals and Sarah Balliet on cello, Roy and Megan from Duraluxe, Kate Long from Early Day Miners, Ben Bussell (ex-Mt. Gigantic), Erika Oliphant (Air Tight Garage) and Nathaniel Seer.

i saw Sam open for Lucero (before William Elliott Whitmore & Rocky Votolato) in Fargo, he was pretty decent.

the Early Day Miners factor def intrigued me about the record.
