Cold War Kids
Robbers and Cowards
Label: Downtown
Release Date: October 10, 2006
Indie rock music is at a crossroads right this very minute. Everyone’s ripping off Modest Mouse, the Decemberists are on a major label and Death Cab stopped trying to be original two albums ago.
But in the meantime, here come Fullerton, California’s Cold War Kids, with their bluesy take on indie rock. By mixing a little Fiona Apple, gypsy voodoo and a little White Blood Cells into the indie rock mix, the group is doing their best at writing songs that are actually about something (men dying in hospital beds, stealing from the offering plate in church, a first person account from an alcoholic father of a family who no longer vacations) and an original take at the indie rock sound.
After a year touring with the likes of Tapes ‘n Tapes, Sound Team and Editors, the group signed to Downtown Records (Art Brut, Gnarls Barkley), mixed their two previous EPs together, and have their sights set at getting Robbers and Cowards to scenesters everywhere.

I’m intriqued… I very much enjoy indie-ish music, so I’ll look into Cold War Kids. Thanks.
