Prophet Omega
Natural World
Label: Astralwerks
Release Date: September 19, 2006
For a DIY musical masterpiece recorded solely at home, programmed beats are the only thing synthetic about Prophet Omega (aka Brooklyn’s Joe Magistro) and his self-produced debut, Natural World.
After some of his homemade tracks were heard and picked up by a Queer Eye for the Straight Guy producer, which eventually earned him this record deal.
Guitar, bells, melodica, etc. were all recorded live by Magistro himself in a small studio in New York’s Catskill Mountains, and the vocals are not too shabby considering it’s his first time. Magistro, who in a former life drummed for Graham Parker, Darlahood, Rich Robinson (Black Crowes) and Kate Pierson (B-52s), brings the perfect marriage of electro-vibe dance party, guitar riff-heavy rock and old school funk. How old school? Well, this is a white dude with a huge afro, for starters.
