You know the songs — “After Midnight,” “Cocaine,” “Call Me the Breeze” — but do you know the story behind those songs?

A new documentary, To Tulsa And Back: On Tour With JJ Cale, follows the legendary reclusive musician and songwriter on his most recent US tour and features live performance and interviews with long time friends and performers (e.g., Eric Clapton), as well as four previously unreleased songs.

Oklahoma’s J.J. Cale, not unlike most songwriters, prefers to keep to himself and let his songs do the talking. To that end, this documentary is a great chance to get a look into his life and see what inspired these classic songs lifted up by Clapton, Skynyrd, etc.

A best-of album, J.J. Cale: The Definitive Collection, will be released by Universal on July 4 - hopefully earning Cale even further recognition for his contribution to the musical landscape today.
