Wow, we guess borrowing copy is the sincerest form of flattery. I guess big media isn’t just scared of blogs - they’re utilizing them to their full extent!
Check out this article from the Lansing State Journal previewing an upcoming Murder By Death show.
The reporter lifted huge chunks of our exclusive interview with lead singer/guitarist Adam Turla for her story.
We’re flattered! Next time, hopefully she’ll mind common etiquette and print the url to give us a little love back. After all, we love Michigan! (thanks Sufjan!)
Local music beat: Murder by Death makes eerie tracks

Lansing State JournalIndiana rock band is ‘in the mouth of the wolf’ at the Temple Club on Friday
When Spin magazine turns its ear toward a new band, its hard not to listen.
Western-style rocker Murder by Death has achieved just that. It was Spin’s “Band of the Day” earlier this month, with the magazine calling Death’s new release, “In Bocca al Lupo,” an “historic concept album.”
AdvertisementThe Indiana-based group, which owes its name to the popular 1976 comic murder-mystery, plays the Temple Club tomorrow.
You can chalk up the Spin honors to the band’s exceedingly melodramatic take on rock music. It’s at times gloomy, at times eerie and at times surprisingly upbeat. On the new album, you’ll find everything from haunted-house music to classic country ditties.
“Whereas the last record was a long form narrative, with just one story told in pieces, song by song, this one is an anthology of short stories,” lead singer Adam Turla told the Perfect Porridge.
Themes on the album are linked to sin and redemption, guilt and remorse. “The idea of doing the right thing is very important thematically in the record,” Turla said.
If you’re wondering about the title, it’s Italian for “in the mouth of the wolf.” That may sound strange at first. But the saying is actually part of an Italian custom. Before taking a test, Italian students say it, and then they respond, “Kill the wolf.”
How in the world did the guys know of that custom?“Sarah (Balliet, cello/keys) and I both took Italian in college,” said Turla, “and my mother emigrated here from Italy so we thought it would be appropriate.”
