Voxtrot : Irving : Triple Rock

Irving just didn’t care it was Monday and the Triple Rock Social Club was near empty. They blew through song after song from their new album, Death in the Garden Blood on the Flowers (review), and some oldies in their Cali-pop meets Beatles Brit rock style. They were good, especially when the full band (even the drummer) sang in perfect harmony in true Cali style.

The headliner, Voxtrot, brought their self-described 60s pop meets 80s Brit rock to the Triple Rock for the second time ever — both times on a Monday night — to a tiny, subdued crowd. Too bad. They definitely didn’t feel like the must-see SXSW phenom.

you were one of the like 20 people there too? sucks i didn’t get to meet you!

as for Voxtrot, while the whole “sxsw buzz/hype, blah blah blah”, maybe isn’t justified… their melodies are so damn amazing and catchy imo, and i think they’re just a really solid live band as well.

they definitely deserved a way WAY bigger crowd than they got last night (it was about half the Entry show a month and a half ago, granted due to Tapes opening up that show).

oh well, they’ll get there in 6 months to a year, i’m sure of it.
