Dream Theater
State Theatre
Minneapolis, MN
March 17, 2006
Dream Theater played two full sets and a long encore at the State Theater in Minneapolis last night, and the pioneering prog rockers showed why after 20 years they’re bigger and more revered than ever. Read on…
After a medley video showing photos highlights from each era (and hairstyles), the group took the stage and ticked off chronological hits from almost every album (although it was hard not to wish for “A Change of Seasons,” which they rarely play).
With a full two day break in the tour leading up to last night’s show (giving Labrie’s voice plenty of rest) and a rowdy St. Patrick’s Day crowd, the show couldn’t have been more explosive. Show highlights included particularly sharp Petrucci/Rudess interplay on “Fatal Tragedy” and the privilege of hearing the 24 minute “Octavarium” masterpiece.
It was fantastic, and a definite highlight of the year for many in the sold out theater - as the group’s last stop in the Twin Cities was a 45 minute set opening for Yes that left much to be desired.

I think I see my head. And no problem with the setlist. I’m always glad to share as much Dream Theater information as I can.
