Tonight, at Minneapolis’ historic First Avenue , Animal Collective showed why they are the surprise “it” band of 2005 — continuing to gain popularity and rise in profile with some, yet continuing to create puzzlement and awe at just why this band is so well received among others.

After the weird yet listenable opener First Nation departed the stage, Animal Collective founding member Noah Lennox, a.k.a. Panda Bear, quickly kicked off their aural nightmare - a fierce shudder of amalgamated venom and cheer that prompted the crowd to hurl itself toward the stage for 90 minutes and then run screaming from the venue.

Masterfully, the group combined songs from Sung Tongs and the recent Feels with past beloved oddities for a non-stop, freak folk show that left many satisfied and others still as confused as before.

If you missed it, you totally missed it. If you were there, you know exactly what I mean.
