In a rustic lodge on an isolated island off the coast of Washington state, Tarantula A.D. set out to record their new album amidst a somber fog. Meanwhile, the rest of us went on with our hectic lives, jobs, families and everyday problems. For those few weeks, immersed in an undisturbed environment, the New York three-piece turned out the mind-teasingly perfect Book of Sand.

A living soundtrack of pounding rhythms, lush strings, spaced out opera and crashing rock, Sand is that creeping feeling you get when you run through the woods alone at night chased by a loved one who finally snapped. After that cabin retreat, the remainder of the album was recorded in band member homes, an abandoned theatre and special guests on the album — Devendra Banhart (”The Fall”), Sierra Casady from CocoRosie (”Sealake and “Empire”) and Inouk (”Who Took Berlin Part I) - recorded their contributions in preternatural locales such as hotel bathrooms and in depths of the Paris Metro.

The result is a bold aural collage of piano improv, salsa, punk, classical and vocal experimentation. It’s an unexpected surprise on a busy day.

The group will be on tour throughout October and November supporting the new album.
