Dungen : Minneapolis, Oct. 7, 2005

Dungen
400 Bar
Minneapolis, MN
October 7, 2005

Their latest album, Ta det lugnt (pron. Tay Da Loon; tran. Take It easy), may be all in Swedish, but it’s a crazy head trip, and I’d read the live show was supposed to be even better…and it was.

To sum it all up, Dungen’s live show is like Olivia Tremor Control meets Flaming Lips naked on a Swedish alp as Syd Barrett cackles gleefully into an alpenhorn of acid. It’s that good.

A psychedelic swirl of prog rock, folk harmonies and jams rounded out Dungen’s set at the 400 Bar Friday in front of a packed house. Principle songwriter/brainchild Gustav Ejstes, who grew up in a 17th century house in the little village Lanna in Vastergotland, Sweden, picked the setlist almost entirely from the latest album and masterfully guided the audience to a musical landscape where language no longer matters.

The group still has 5 dates left on their tour before heading back across the pond, and I highly suggest you check them out. Ta det lugnt is buyworthy and if you dig that, last Tuesday Dungen’s 2nd album Stadsvandringar from 2002 was re-released on Astralwerks in the states.
