G/Z/R : Ohmwork

May 27th, 2005 · No Comments

G/Z/R, a quartet led by the legendary Black Sabbath bassist/lyricist Geezer Butler, has released its second studio album titled, “Ohmwork.”

Although Geezer has two solo efforts behind him already (one under the G/Z/R moniker), however, this is his first album in eight years. Featuring 10 classic metal/rock songs with the stereotypical “thrust fist in air and shout chorus” parts throughout.

Vocalist Clark Brown, a virtual unknown when he was selected for GZR’s “Plastic Planet” in 1995, has come a long way. A vocal style crossed between Layne Stanley (Alice in Chains) and Sonny Sandoval (POD), Brown brings a refreshing approach to each track you won’t find on nu-metal albums today. Pedro Howse, another longtime collaborator, takes care of the obligatory guitar thrash and newbie drummer Chad Smith does a great job trying to keep up.

Geezer Butler will be playing the second date of Ozzfest on his 56th birthday this July. After trekking across the country playing the standard Black Sabbath fare through September, be looking for a tour this fall 2005.

G/Z/R’s “Ohmwork” is in stores now from Sanctuary Records. For kicks, check out Geezer’s online journal here.
